Add “Magic” To Your Business

What is Magic?

Magic is a new service that has been getting a lot of attention recently and we at Sonar absolutely love the concept. Magic allows you to simply text a number to “get whatever you want on demand.” On their homepage, they say they will order from services like Doordash, Instacart, and Postmates. The first time you use Magic, you will have to give them your credit card, address etc but after that your information is on file. Wonderful.

When we saw Magic, we were very excited because this is one of the reasons text messaging is so powerful when used correctly for business applications. It is an extremely light weight way to offer high-touch service to your customers. We were also excited because we knew our product Sonar could easily enable any company to offer this type of service for their own products. Sonar enables companies to have two-way conversations with customers over SMS. Below is how you get started.

Step 1: Get Setup With Sonar + Stripe

The first step is to sign up for Sonar. After entering some brief information, your account is created and you can start your free trial. After logging in, you’ll be asked to select an area code. This area code will be used for creating phone numbers for your business.

Next, invite your team members to join you on your Sonar account from the team page. You can add as many team members as you want for no additional charge.

Next you’ll need to be able to store and charge credit cards when someone wants to order something. We suggest using a service like Stripe for that.

Step 2: Tell People About Your Phone Number

There are a couple ways to tell customers about your new ability to text message with them. The simplest way is to take the phone number Sonar created for you and to put it on your homepage with some simple text telling people they can send text messages to that number with someone real on the other end. Just by putting the phone number on your homepage, you’ll see incoming text messages start to appear. People want to send text messages to businesses.

Another way to tell customers about the ability to text message is by using our Ping Widget. The Ping Widget is a few lines of javascript that you place in the header of your code that generates a button on your mobile website that when clicked, automatically opens up the customer’s SMS app with your phone number pre-populated. Ping only appears on SMS-enabled devices.

One great thing about Sonar is that once a customer sends a text message to your number, they can store that number in their phone because they’ll only ever see that one number.

Step 3: Support The Incoming Requests

Now that you’ve given your customers the ability to text message you and get amazing service like Magic, it’s time to actually support those requests!

Using Sonar to respond to inbound texts is easy. New messages appear in the left sidebar and after claiming them, you can simply type back your response from your computer.

If you want to store customer information (delivery address, preferences etc), you can easily do so by editing the customer and adding properties. Now you’ll quickly have your customer’s preferences ready to go next time they send a request.

Conclusion

And, you’re done! Now you’re able to offer Magic-like service (or even create a Magic clone) for your business with a few clicks. If your business does a lot of volume or your new Magic-clone becomes as popular as Magic itself, don’t worry we handle large volumes of text messages easily.
